The .PT Domain Performed Well

In a recent article on its website, DNS.PT, the organisation responsible for administering Portugal’s country code top level domain (ccTLD) .PT, discussed the growth of the ccTLD in the past year.

150,525 domain name registrations were reported by the .PT Registry in 2022, which represents a 10% increase over the previous year and corresponds to 13,604 domain name registrations.

The continued strong growth of domain names under .PT has been confirmed during the months of March and October of 2022 (with 15,612 new registrations and 15,656 registrations). During the second half of 2022, more than 7,400 new domain names were registered under the .PT domain name extension, an increase of more than 12,435 domain names or 20% from the same period in 2021.

According to Luisa Ribeiro Lopes, Chair of the .PT Board of Directors for DNS.PT, “the number of registrations this year has exceeded the results of the pandemic years.” In addition, she said:

“the numbers leave us very satisfied and consolidate the work that .PT develops, whether in promoting a secure and more reliable internet, or in the area of digital training and inclusion. The .PT domain has been growing consecutively for ten years, assuming itself as a true case of success among European domains”

Global TLD Report published by CENTRstats showed that .PT with a 10% growth rate outperformed European ccTLDs with an average growth rate of 2%. The total number of .PT domain names registered at the time of writing was over 1,66 million.
