auDA transfers policy to take effect on Monday
June 13 2003
The .au Domain Administration's new transfers policy will come into force on Monday.
The main feature of the new policy is that registrants can transfer their domain name to another registrar at any time without having to enter into a new two-year licence.
In a media release timed to coincide with the change, Larry Bloch, the CEO of domain registrar NetRegistry said: "ISP customers have been waiting for this change. They now face virtually no barrier to moving their domain names away from MelbourneIT to a cheaper registrar.”
“Customers can transfer to NetRegistry right now, enjoy a better level of service, and know their renewal rate will be a fraction of the charge levied by MelbourneIT,” Bloch said, adding that free hosting was on offer as well.
Asked why his statements were all targeted at MelbourneIT, Bloch said there was some history to it.
